4/22/24 Student Update

Hello Cambridge College Students,

 

We're almost there—the semester's wrapping up, and summer's just around the corner! Give yourselves a pat on the back for all the hard work and late nights. It’s a home stretch, and we know you’ve got this! Keep your eyes on the prize: long, sunny days and a much-needed break are nearly here. Let’s push through these last few weeks together, nail those finals, and jump into summer with both feet. In the meantime, this week’s newsletter is packed with workshops, events, and resources to provide some information and help you finish strong.

 

Up first is The 3rd Annual "I am CC" event, which will be held TODAY (Monday) at 6:00 PM EST. “I am CC” celebrates and highlights some of our incredible students' academic journeys and accomplishments. A select group of undergraduate students will share their stories and insights from an "AHA!" moment when something from a class connected with an academic, professional, or personal experience.  Everyone is invited to join us as we come together to celebrate our students and fellow classmates and find inspiration from their journeys, learning, and successes. To register and join, follow this link: I AM CC ZOOM LINK

 

As always, CC professional tutors provide amazing support to all students in the areas of writing, research, math, statistics, Excel, accounting, understanding the assignment, reading comprehension, and more! Click here to view the Academic Success Center on MyCC to learn more. If you are unable to attend a tutoring appointment you have made, please cancel the appointment 24 hours before so that other students will have access to that time.

Join Cambridge College’s Career Services Manager, Irina Galatskaya, for this exciting workshop on emotions in the workplace! In this workshop, you will learn the five components of emotional intelligence at work: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills, critical skills for your personal and professional success. Approximately 90% of all high performers in the workplace have high Emotional Intelligence (also known as EI or EQ). Emotional intelligence is important because it can help you improve your interpersonal relationships, both personally and professionally. You’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions at the end.

 

APA Bootcamp

Please join CC Librarian Jeff Cronin, as he covers the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition citation style. We will begin by covering APA basics including how to format the most used sources for papers and the basics of in-text citations. We will conclude by covering resources you can use to help with APA. Academic Writing: Outlining & Using Sources Effectively

These skills will help you to write a well-structured paper! Learning Specialist Leah Barcan will share resources and structures to help you meet your academic writing goals at CC. You are welcome to bring specific assignments you'd like to work on, and there will also be time for questions.  

 

How to Create an Effective e-Poster

An ePoster is a digital presentation format required in some undergraduate and graduate classes, as well as a good format for presenting in many professional situations. ePosters apply the skill of remediation, the process of taking a text and translating it into a new medium. In this one-hour workshop, Faculty Fellow Dr. Kate Henry will teach students the basics of ePosters, including the use of templates, examples of effective ePosters, and tips and tricks for strong presentations.

 

Writing an Introduction for an Academic Paper

Often the hardest part of writing a paper is developing the introduction paragraph. It can be hard to determine what to include and what to leave out, yet a strong introduction to begin any paper is essential. CC professional writing tutor Joel Krikorian will provide various pointers and strategies for successfully crafting effective introductions for any paper. There will also be time to ask questions and get help with your own writing projects.

How to Research Companies & Industries

Developing your skill at researching companies and industries can pay off in numerous ways. It can help you with your coursework, identify prospective employers, prepare for interviews, and research personal investments. Please join CC Librarian Jeff Cronin to develop these skills. Jeff will begin with a brief presentation about the different types of companies, e.g., publicly held and privately held. He will then discuss a variety of resources on the web and in databases at the Cambridge College Online Library that provide data and analysis for companies and industries. English Conversation Group 

Every Thursday, 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM (ET) via Zoom. Click here to register

Our English Conversation Group is designed to help English language learners practice conversational skills in a safe and structured environment. English Conversation Group meets virtually via Zoom every Thursday (except federal holidays). There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.

 

Finally, don’t forget that the Cambridge College 53rd Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Leader Bank Pavilion, 290 Northern Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, at 4:00 PM. All graduates must arrive no later than 2:30 PMDoors open at 3:00 PM for the public and guests of participants.
