4/8/24 Student Update

Hello Cambridge College Students,

 

We know things are heating up with assignments, projects, and that never-ending to-do list. We hope you take a deep breath because you've got this! Our newsletters are always packed with resources and tips to help you crush the semester, from time management hacks to mental health support. So, dive in, recharge, and remember – you're not alone!

 

For those of you who are close to the finish line, be sure to mark your calendars! Graduation is fast approaching, and it's a celebration you deserve to be a part of. Here's everything you need to know:

 

The Cambridge College 53rd Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Leader Bank Pavilion, 290 Northern Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, at 4:00 PM. All graduates must arrive no later than 2:30 PMDoors open at 3:00 PM for the public and guests of participants. As you continue to work hard to meet your goals for this semester, don’t forget all the great, free resources Cambridge College has to support you! Click here to view the Academic Success Center on MyCC. CC professional tutors provide amazing support to all students in the areas of writing, research, math, statistics, Excel, accounting, understanding the assignment, reading comprehension, and more! If you are unable to attend a tutoring appointment you have made, please cancel the appointment 24 hours before so that other students will have access to that time.

Do you want to learn more about the art of networking? Networking allows you to meet new people in your field and learn about new opportunities. You never know when one of your contacts will have a lead on a great job or be able to introduce you to someone who can help further your career. Networking is also essential for keeping up with industry trends and developments. If you are ready to improve your networking skills, then this is the workshop for you!

 

How to Create an Effective e-Poster

An ePoster is a digital presentation format required in some undergraduate and graduate classes, as well as a good format for presenting in many professional situations. ePosters apply the skill of remediation, the process of taking a text and translating it into a new medium. In this one-hour workshop, Faculty Fellow Dr. Kate Henry will teach students the basics of ePosters, including the use of templates, examples of effective ePosters, and tips and tricks for strong presentations.

Please join CC Librarian Jeff Cronin as he covers the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition citation style. We will begin by covering APA basics including how to format the most used sources for papers and the basics of in-text citations. We will conclude by covering resources you can use to help with APA style. There will also be an opportunity for questions. Academic Writing & Presentations

Bring any questions you have about your papers and presentations! Topics may include how to research efficiently (for papers and slide presentations), how to create a solid outline, how to use PowerPoint/Google Slides/Canva, how to cite your sources using APA format, how to create a schedule for completing larger assignments, and how to proofread and edit effectively. Learning Specialist Leah Barcan will share resources and structures to help you meet your academic goals at CC. Avoiding Plagiarism - Paraphrasing, Quoting, and Summarizing

As you work on your papers and projects, it’s important to know when and how to paraphrase, quote, and summarize. CC Learning Specialist Leah Barcan will help you practice these skills while making progress on your own assignments. We will also review ways to keep track of sources so you don’t waste time trying to find them later, and we will touch on how to make doing APA citations easier. Using Your Sources Effectively

Knowing how to find the right sources and how to use them effectively is the starting point of a great research paper. CC professional writing tutor Joel Krikorian will show you how to choose sources that are the best fit for your assignment, how to read quickly and efficiently, and how to keep track of what you read. There will also be time to work on your own research projects and ask questions.

 

English Conversation Group 

Thursdays, 5:00 PM-6:00 PM (ET). Click here to register

Our English Conversation Group is designed to help English language learners practice conversational skills in a safe and structured environment. English Conversation Group meets virtually via Zoom every Thursday (except federal holidays). There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.
